Composer, Artist
born in 1970 in Kyoto, JAPAN
Currently lives in Tokyo

Has been involved in music production for commercials, TV programs, websites, and events since the mid-1990s, and embarked on artistic activities from 2002. His works address “sound and light” and the fusion of music with visual effects, and his style has garnered attention for a richness and power that speaks to the inner world of viewers.

In 2005 participated in the Aichi World Expo as a composer. Created original music for the movie “PopulouSCAPE.”

In 2006 presented "BEARINGS GLOCKEN," a musical instrument that performs automatically using ball bearings. The world premier performance was enthusiastically received by people of all ages and nationalities.

In 2007 composed music for Israeli Dancer/Choreographer Arkadi Zaides's performance “DAAT.” The performance was premiered in Yokohama, JAPAN.

KAWASE learned composition from his high school days by self-education,
and began his own creation from 1991 .

From middle of 1990's, he started activity in the field of commercial music,
such as TV commercials, web contents, show events and more.

In 1998, he organized a video art collective called "n" ensemble orb,
and has been engaged in music composition of many experimental video art works.
This collective was selected for the PHILIP MORRIS ART AWARD in 2002.
Also the end of 2002, they were invited to the Art Festival "TOKYO ZONE" held in Paris,
and showed their work.


From 2002 began creating works using the theme "sound and light."

In May 2002, he announced the solo installation work "Long Autumn Sweet Thing -prototype-"
at the 3rd SICF (Wacoal art center/Spiral sponsorship), and was awarded Grand Prix.

In November 2002, he held  the solo exhibition "Long Autumn Sweet Thing" at Wacoal Art Center / Spiral, Tokyo.
Since then, the career as an artist has been started.

Has gained attention for his style that uses the formless materials of "sound and light"
to create works with breadth and power, speaking directly to audiences.

In 2005, he participated in the Aichi Expo as a composer
to produce the soundtrack for the movie "PopulouSCAPE" and for the performance "Creative Japan."

In 2006 presented BEARINGS GLOCKEN, a musical instrument that performs automatically using ball bearings.
The world premier performance at the Wacoal Art Center/SPIRAL (Tokyo) in November 2006
was enthusiastically received by people of all ages and nationalities.

Awarded the 2002 Spiral Independent Creators Festival(SICF) Grand Prix,
selected for the 2002 PHILIP MORRIS ART AWARD(as "n" ensemble orb),
2003 ASIA DIGITAL ART AWARDS, 2004 NHK Digital Stadium Best Selection,
2006 ASIA DIGITAL STADIUM AWARDS(as Team PopulouSCAPE),

and was 2004 NHK Digital Stadium Awards 2004 Finalist.
